At the end of April 1995, the Chancellor of the RWTH receives the self-disclosure of the former Rector Hans Schwerte. He admits to having lived under a false name since May 1945 and thus to having concealed his past in the Nazi regime as SS-Hauptsturmführer and head of department in the “Amt Ahnenerbe”. The self-disclosure was preceded by research by students of the philosophy department and journalists.
The AStA is organizing a panel discussion on April 17 at 6 p.m. in the Aula I in the main building of the RWTH. The panelists are:
Angelina Pils – doctoral student on the Schneider/Schwerte case
Thomas Müller – member of the “Kollektiv für Nestbeschmutzung” and part of the students who researched the case in 1995
Helmut König – university representative for the case
Max Kerner – long-time professor at RWTH and acquaintance of Schneider/Schwerte
about what it took for him to be exposed, how RWTH handled the case, and why the case is symptomatic of the times. The discussion will be moderated by Christine Roll.
We look forward to seeing you there!
