On 8.2. and 9.2. there will be maintenance work at Unitymedia/Vodafone in the Aachen area, which may lead to Internet outages.
There will possibly be interruptions in exams, as with 1000+ participants many could be affected.
Therefore, here are a few tips if you have an exam on these days and are with the above providers:
- Ask the chair/institute for a phone number that you can contact in the event of a disruption. This way you have a way to get in touch directly and let them know if something goes wrong.
- Try to write at friends who have a different internet provider. It’s not a nice solution, but it’s safe.
- Ask the chair/institute if they have rooms where you can write. This usually only works for smaller exams, but if it is possible it is the safest.
- Use a hotspot from your cell phone to bridge possible outages. Keep in mind that a hotspot consumes a lot of battery and data volume.
If the connection fails, the examiners decides whether to end the exam for the person in question. In that case the exam will not be scored. This usually happens if the connection is interrupted for more than 5 minutes, but can often be prevented by a phone call or similar.
