If you would like to work voluntarily for the student body, enjoy organizing cultural events
and exchanging ideas with other players in the cultural scene or even have your own ideas
for projects that promote the cultural education of students, for example, or that may have
been missing in Aachen until now, the Department for Cultural Affairs is the right place for
you!

As department leader, you will be responsible for your own departement, which means
that you will also be responsible for coordinating and leading a team of volunteer project
managers who will support you or have their own projects.

What tasks await you?

  • You are practicaly your own boss in your departement and can continue exciting
    events and projects or create new ones. Current events are: Campus Festival,
    Semesteranfangsparty (SAP), BierTemp, GlühTemp, student ball, lecture hall slam,
    power point karaoke
  • There are also other projects that the department is working on. These includs, for example,
    the introduction of a cultural semester ticket in cooperation with the city. Or graffiti walls on
    campus and in underpasses, the topic of accessibility at events, drawing courses and
    potential excursions for cultural education.
  • You have a team of around 10 project managers who supervise individual projects or
    support yours
  • You regularly talk to the rector, the management level of the Studierendenwerk, the city’s
    stakeholders and the independent cultural scene and can also network with other AStAs
    across NRW

What experience should you have?

  • Interest in culture and motivation to make a difference
  • A structured and reliable way of working. Events such as SAP have a volume of almost
    40,000 euros and the cultural semester ticket significantly more
  • Initial experience in event planning and possibly event management as well as leading
    groups is desirable
  • Awareness should be no new concept for you
  • Willingness to familiarize yourself with legal regulations, e.g. on the operation of bars, therefore the ability to understand German law textes is requiered
  • A lot of the communication will be in German, you shoud be fluent in German
  • At least 30 hours of time per week (leave of absence possible)

What do we offer?

  • A commited AStA team consisting of seven department leaders and a total of up to
    100 project managers
  • Experience in project management and leading a team
  • Training opportunities for event management
  • A BAföG maximum rate as an expense allowance for your voluntary work

The department leader for Cultural Affairs is elected by the student parliament and has to
report to it. The term of office lasts approximately until mid-July 2025. An election would be
possible in September or mid-October by arrangement.
