Website Appointment committee for the representatives for student assistants
Dear fellow students,
at RWTH Aachen University, the position of the Representative for Student Assistants is to be filled for a term of office of twenty-four months at the earliest possible date (probably from January or February 2025) in accordance with Section 46a of the Higher Education Act (HG) in conjunction with Section 30 of the RWTH Basic Regulations and Sections 41a-41c of the RWTH student body statutes. The election of the representative is carried out by the Senate on the recommendation of a student search committee, which is confirmed by the student parliament. The election in the Senate is expected to take place on 30.01.2025, the proposal is expected to be elected by the Student Parliament at the meeting on 15.01.2025. A weekly commitment of 10 to 15 hours is expected. This is an honorary position. An appropriate expense allowance ensures that committed students are not disadvantaged in this role.
Your profile
- own experience from working as a student assistant or good knowledge of the university structures (e.g. through student council work)
- Knowledge of the situation of student assistants (collective agreement, trade unions, fixed-term contracts, salary, other regulations and common problems)
- Communication skills and the ability to resolve conflicts, motivation to represent interests vis-à-vis the university
- Interest in familiarizing yourself with the legal framework
- good knowledge of written and spoken German and English
- the representative for student assistants must come from the RWTH student body
- strong motivation to improve the working conditions of student employees
- own ideas on how to raise awareness of the rights of student employees, especially via social media.
Your tasks
In accordance with Section 46a HG, the task of the Representative for Student Assistants will be, together with a Co-Representative for Student Assistants, to monitor compliance with applicable law in the selection and employment of student assistants at RWTH, to work towards an appropriate organization of their working conditions, to deal with complaints from those affected and to represent their interests vis-à-vis the university and other relevant institutions.
In addition, a counseling and information service is to be provided for student assistants.
Furthermore, the representatives should network with other representatives at the universities in North Rhine-Westphalia as well as the RWTH Staff Council and other institutions of staff representation.
The representatives are jointly accountable to the student parliament and only to the student parliament. Our offer As part of the job, you can contribute your ideas and work independently and on your own responsibility. You will be paid a monthly allowance of approximately two thirds of the maximum BaFöG rate.
