Application – Social loan

To apply for short-term or long-term loans, you need to submit certain proofs and documents. Both types of loans are interest-free, so you only have to pay back the amount you borrowed.

Current certificate of enrolmentThe short-term social loan

For a short-term social loan, this application form must be completed and submitted to the department for social affairs. Please make sure that you attach all the necessary documents in full.

For a short-term social loan we need the following documents:

  • Valid identity card or passport and, if available, a certificate of residence 
  • Current certificate of enrolment
  • Copy of the rental contract
  • Copy of the registration certificate (or re-registration certificate) of the city
  • Bank statements for the last three months of all accounts
  • Certificate on future income and possible debts

The maximum amount for the short-term loan is 1000€. The amount actually paid out must be repaid to the AStA within 6 months at the latest. Only one short-term social loan per student can be applied for. If this is repaid without delay, a new short-term loan can be applied for. The short-term loan can be offset against the long-term loan.

The long-term social loan

To apply for a long-term social loan, you must fill in this application form and submit it to the department for social affairs with the necessary documents. Please make sure that you include all the necessary documents.

For a long-term social loan we need the following documents:

  • Application form (german Version)
  • Detailed explanation of the financial emergency stating the amount required
  • Valid identity card or passport and if available, a certificate of residence
  • Current certificate of study
  • Copy of the rental contract
  • Copy of the registration certificate (or re-registration certificate) of the city
  • Bank statements for the last three months for all accounts, starting at the current date
  • Certificate of future income and possible debts (BAföG/studi loans…)
  • Certificate of health insurance
  • Transcript of records (Notenspiegel)

The maximum amount per year is usually 1950€. This can vary due to private circumstances:

  • For each biological child in the household the loan increases by 350€.
  • If you are self-insured, the loan increases by 500€

The maximum grant amount is 3900€. If this amount is exhausted, no further funds can be requested. You may apply once a year if you apply for the maximum amount. If you do not apply for the maximum amount, you can apply again for the remaining amount within one year.
